Archive – New American Monuments

IHDAP-pwvoig-american-photographs-01New American Monuments is a long term project on the public display of national identity, Christian Faith and military supremacy.

So what the heck is the Institute ?

INSTITUTE FOR THE HARMONIOUS DEVELOPMENT OF ART AND PHOTOGRAPHY

Our little playground, the Institute for the Harmonious Development of Art and Photography, is all grown up and it now has its own webpage.

So what the heck is the Institute ?

We see it as a small sanctuary where one can enjoy photography among friends and reconnect with other art forms.
It will give you a chance to dive deep into our current projects, discover lost pearls from our archives and be introduced to some truly remarkable artists in the Recommendations Section.

New American Monuments

“People want leadership not only from the living but from the dead” claims Leslie George Katz in Lee Friedlander´s epochal “American Monuments”. We found significant proof to support his theory in Texas.

Daniel Stier – Ways of Knowing

I have known Daniel for years. Actually, we met back in the day while applying to art school and we’ve managed to stay friends till now.
He is an outstanding photographer with a steady output of very contemporary and precise work.
I highly recommend his latest book “Ways of Knowing”. A future classic.

Atom Display. Museum of Atomic Energy.
Vintage ferrotyped gelatin silver print. 20 x 25 cm . 1952

Since 2009, P.W. Voigt has been collecting vintage photographs on nuclear research, the development of the atom bomb and the United States’ first rockets. They were taken during the nineteen thirties and the nineteen seventies. They are press images, for instance, about how you can survive a nuclear attack, or photographs that national laboratories commissioned to document their activities. The childish enthusiasm and the scientific innocence displayed in the photographs can be viewed as the blueprint for contemporary scientific expeditions to unknown territories. In the current transition from paper to digital archives, many of the unique images have landed on the free market indirectly – first entire archives were sold, after which their new owners broke them down into pieces.
